Community Services



HIV / AIDS community programs are collaborative ventures undertaken with AVERT, ARCON, MSACS and supported by Bill Gates & Bill Clinton Foundations. Information, Education, Counseling (IEC) : Awareness in urban & rural communities, explaining the cause, method of transmission and approach to patients with emphasis on preventive measures is carried out by various means which include health talks, slide & film shows, street plays, exhibitions etc. Work Place Intervention : The migrant sugarcane harvesting workers who arrive in large numbers are the focus of attention wherein a team of coordinators, counselors and out-reach workers undertake education, condom distribution and awareness. STI detection, referrals and peer education is also carried out. Pediatric ART : Free ART, nutritional supplements, traveling expenses, investigations including CD4 counts, treatment of opportunistic infection and social support is provided for children affected with HIV/AIDS. Integrated Counseling & Testing Centre : Pre & post test counseling for spouse & children of HIV affected patients, referrals for patients suffering from TB, or other opportunistic infection for free Anti Retroviral Therapy and treatment under RNTCP. Preventing Transmission from Mother to Child (PPTCT) : It involves ANC testing for HIV & treating the HIV positive mother during labour & child after birth to prevent transmission.


Awareness, Early Detection and Treatment of Cancer in women Public awareness about cancer has increased but it is limited to those with formal education living in urban settings. In rural India cancer still remains a myth and is viewed as disease with no definitive remedy. The advent of new knowledge, advanced methods for early detection and a whole new armoury for treatment has already resulted in improved disease-free survivals. This community program with the theme ‘Cancer can be challenged, Cancer can be overcome’ aims at educating, counseling and detecting cancer by conducting health talks, diagnostic camps and screening tests like mammography and pap-smears in an attempt to reach people living in villages.

National / Other Program Family Planning : Tubal Ligation, copper T insertion & oral contraceptives and counseling to prevent gender discrimination. National Program for Prevention of Blindness : There are many diseases that can lead to loss of vision but the most common among these are cataract, trachoma, gloucoma and xerophthalmia. They are all preventable or curable and therefore need to be identified early to avoid blindness. About 100 ophthalmic surgeries are performed every month. Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program : Detection, sputum examination chart x-rays and DOT's treatment is provided free of cost. Detection & Prevention of Malnutrition : The project is undertaken in 16 surrounding villages and covers a child population of almost 35000. Diagnostic Camps & School Health Check-ups : These camps and School Health Check-ups are held every fortnight. Patients are referred to Krishna Hospital where treatment is provided either free or at highly subsidized rates. Blood Donation Camps : Voluntary blood donation camps are conducted in colleges & social organizations.
